About Nelson Racing Engines

The name NELSON RACING ENGINES has become synonmous with extreme horspower applications.

When professional car builders and car owners are looking to "push the envelope" of power and drivability, they call on NRE.

Whether looking for 2,000hp+ race application, or a 1,500hp street application, NRE has been building turn-key solutions for super motors for over 11 years.

Put simply - we are gear-heads. We love high-horsepower performance and always have. It began with the question: "What if...?" and turned into a quest to squeeze every inch of power using innovative thinking combined with proven theory.

Nelson Racing Engines opened their doors in 1995. 11 years later, owner Tom Nelson creates combinations with the passion he had when building hot rods as a teen for his friends. "That's what keeps us at our best. There is so much to learn. I'm always a student," says Tom. "I eat, sleep, and breathe my profession and want to provide my customers with the best that I can offer. There is nothing more satisfying than getting to know my customer and setting out to achieve his (or her!) goals. It's what gets me up in the morning."

Posted Tuesday 10-07-2008

Nelson Supercar #003 Unveiled at the Sema show in Las Vegas this car is Titled the worlds cleanest third gen by Hot rod magazine and landed the cover of the June issue with a full write up Not only did it land itself into Hot Rod mag but also look for it in upcoming issues of Camaro performers,Gm high tech, and Chevy high performance. The car owned by Randy Davis of Wisconsin was brought to us for a beef and beauty makeover. We built a Nre 427 Twin turbo hot rod series crate engine making a streetable 1750 hp at 5900 rpm and 1730 ftlbs at 5000 rpm.and will still idle at 800 rpm and is reliable enough to drive across the country. To handle this power We installed a fully modified 4l85e computer contolled with electronic transbrake, going threw a Denny drive shaft and strange 35 spline nodular rear end.We Back halfed the car using factory sheetmetal so you could not tell we modified the frame rails to make way for 345/35/18 drag radials out back. And built a custom three link rear suspension. The front suspension is a AJE front cross member with power rack and pinion,Spohn control arms and Hotchkis springs and sway bars.Baer brakes are at all 4 corners. The entire engine bay was hand crafted here where we relocated the master cylinder under the dash and upgrading the ac system to a vintage air unit installed under the dash for a clean look. The chassis was tied together with a custom made roll cage connecting all major structure points along with custom made frame connectors that are triangulated back into the unibody.A full 321 stainless oval dual three inch ex system exits the spent gasses and a custom dual row dual pass twin fan radiator handles the cooling. We shot the car in ppg white with orange stripes. It truly is a showpiece that really is a functional monster on the road Capable of running 8 second quartermiles and cruising in traffic with the ac blowing a have your cake and eat type of car.
